Shelley Alexis Duvall, the actress who starred in Stanley Kubrick's 1980 horror classic "The Shining" and numerous acclaimed Robert Altman films, has died, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Early Life and Career

Duvall was born on July 7, 1949, in Fort Worth, Texas, and grew up outside Houston. Her father, Robert, was a cattle auctioneer who later became a lawyer. Her mother, Bobbie, was a housewife.

Duvall began her acting career in the 1970s, appearing in several films by Altman, including "MASH" (1970), "McCabe & Mrs. Miller" (1971), and "Nashville" (1975).

"The Shining" and Beyond

Her breakout role came in Kubrick's "The Shining," where she played Wendy Torrance, the isolated and terrified mother. Duvall's intense performance earned her critical acclaim and remains one of the most iconic horror performances of all time.

Throughout her career, Duvall starred in films such as "Brewster McCloud" (1970), "Annie Hall" (1977), "Popeye" (1980), and "Roxanne" (1987).

Later Years

Duvall retired from acting in the mid-1990s and has rarely appeared in public since then. In 2016, she spoke out about her mental health struggles and was diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder.

Duvall's death was confirmed by her agent, Carol Arlene O'Leary. She is survived by her son, Bryan.
