SMU football opened American Athletic Conference play with a 34-16 win against Charlotte on Saturday night at Ford Stadium in Dallas, Texas.
The Mustangs were led by running back Jaylan Knighton, who broke the game open with a 95-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Knighton's touchdown run gave SMU a 21-10 lead and helped them pull away from Charlotte.
